Mortenson Dental Partners (MDP) has launched their 2023 campaign, “A healthy smile means a healthier you.” The campaign aims to increase awareness of the link between oral health and overall health, and why it’s so important to see a dentist regularly to support oral health and prevent and treat gum disease.
Approximately 46% of adults aged 30 and older suffer from gum disease, and many people believe it’s only a problem for oral health. In reality, if gum disease is left untreated, it can spread to and negatively impact many parts of your body, and even increase the risk of certain conditions.
Our mouths are full of bacteria, both good and bad, and an overgrowth of bad bacteria can spread throughout your body and contribute to other health issues. Areas impacted by this overgrowth can include the heart and lungs — where an overgrowth of bacteria can contribute to heart disease or respiratory diseases such as pneumonia. This overgrowth may also cause a rise in blood sugar, which can affect those with type 2 diabetes, and can even increase the risk of conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
MDP hopes to bring awareness to patients about the importance of seeing a dentist twice a year to check for signs of gum disease. MDP also hopes to show patients the importance of practicing good oral hygiene habits at home and utilizing their dentist for education and guidance. The 2023 campaign will provide tips and preventative measures relating to oral health and gum disease through monthly blogs, social media posts, and an educational landing page.
“I am excited about our new marketing campaign that raises awareness of the link between oral health and overall health. It is a great example of our company’s mission, ‘to improve the lives of others’ in action,” said Bill Becknell, CEO of Mortenson Dental Partners. “We hope that we can not only improve our patients’ oral health, but contribute to their overall health, longevity and happiness.”
