Dr. O. Wayne Mortenson was born and raised in the small town of Elfrida, Arizona. He received his bachelor’s degree in agriculture from the University of Arizona before graduating from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. In 1979, he opened his first dental practice in Middletown, Kentucky. That practice expanded to become Mortenson Dental Partners, with over 140 affiliate offices across the United States. A committed supporter of dental education, Dr. Mortenson and his wife, Sue, have made planned gifts to the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. Dr. Mortenson has received numerous awards for his charitable work, including the Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids award. He was also recognized as Ernst & Young’s Businessperson of the Year for the Kentucky-Ohio Region. He has been honored by the Crown Council, an international dental society, with a Lifetime Achievement Award and was first inducted into the Dental Hall of Fame. Dr. Mortenson is also a member of the Kentucky-Indiana Business Hall of Fame.
