Who We Are
Mortenson Dental Partners is one of the largest groups of dentist and employee-owned dental practices in the United States.
Beginning as a single practice in 1979, the company has grown to almost 160 practices across ten states, employing over 2,200 team members and welcoming nearly one million patient visits each year. With services ranging from general and pediatric dentistry to orthodontics and oral surgery, we believe in offering high-quality dental care as part of our mission to improve the lives of others every day.
Unlike most dental support organizations, we are completely employee owned. We empower team members to think like an owner and make the best decisions for their team, patients and office.
Our History
In 1979, Dr. Wayne Mortenson and his wife, Sue, founded the first Mortenson Family Dental practice in Middletown, Kentucky. After many years of running a successful practice, Dr. Wayne’s sons opened their own Mortenson Family Dental sites in surrounding areas. Soon, other local dentists with the same values and visions joined the organization, opening additional Mortenson Family Dental as well as specialty practices under the Oral & Facial Surgery Group, BracesBracesBraces and Kid’s Dentistree brands.
In 2011, Dr. Wayne and Dr. John Howard of Howard Family Dental realized they could benefit from bringing their organizations together to share the best practices they had learned throughout their careers. The integration of Howard Family Dental into Mortenson Dental Partners was Dr. Wayne’s first foray into growing his dental support organization by partnering with other groups of dentists. Later that year, Dr. John Meis affiliated his own dental practice in Sioux City, Iowa. Over the next several years, additional dental groups with similar values and culture followed suit, including Abbeville Dentistry, Stonehaven Dental, Summit Dental Health, Gentle Dentist and American Family Orthodontics. Collectively, these groups comprise Mortenson Dental Partners and access numerous support services to help them provide high-quality dental care to patients. As Mortenson Dental Partners expands its reach to support even more practices, we are steadfast in maintaining our core mission and values, while leveraging our size to better support teams and care for patients.
Our Charitable Foundation
At Mortenson Dental Partners, we believe in giving back to our communities in meaningful ways.
Through the Mortenson Charitable Foundation, we contribute to important educational and healthcare needs in our communities and around the world, as well as team members during times of crisis and educational endeavors.
