The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into dental practices has seen a rapid increase in recent years. In 2023, a study revealed that 35% of dentists had already adopted AI tools within their practices, with that number expected to be even higher today. AI is used to support various aspects of dentistry, from clinical documentation to treatment planning, diagnostic imaging, and patient communication. Earlier this year, the first U.S. Standard on AI in Dentistry was approved by the American National Standards Institute, providing a framework for responsible and effective implementation of AI technologies in the field. 

MDP continues to explore advanced technological tools, including AI, with an aim to benefit patient care. Recently, MDP partnered with Overjet and IRIS to modernize our imaging infrastructure and enhance both clinical care and operational efficiency.

What is Overjet/IRIS?

Overjet/IRIS is a cloud-based dental imaging platform that integrates advanced artificial intelligence (AI) to support clinical decision-making and improve the way we capture, store, and access patient images.

• Overjet uses AI to automatically analyze dental radiographs, helping to identify key findings such as decay and bone loss. It supports providers by offering data-driven insights that enhance diagnostic accuracy and patient communication.
• IRIS is the imaging interface that allows seamless cloud-based capture, viewing, and sharing of images across locations, removing the reliance on local servers or manual transfers.

By adopting a cloud-based imaging solution, the MDP team hopes to:

• Enable real-time access to imaging data from any authorized location, reducing delays and improving patient care continuity.
• Improve collaboration and clinical decision-making among MDP-supported providers, particularly in cases involving specialty referrals or multidisciplinary care.
• Strengthen compliance and data security.
